• 1947 The transistor was successfully demonstrated this year by William Shockley, John Bardeen and Walter Brattain.
  
  
• 1977 The 'WOW' signal was detected by Ohio State University's Big Ear radio telescope - kicking-off SETI. Guatemala threatened to invade Belize, but the UK forces convinced them not to.
  
  
• 1982 The Falklands War started when Argentina invaded and the UK kicked them off.
  
  
• 1990 The First Gulf War was started when Iraq invaded Kuwait.
  
  
• 1991 The First Gulf War ended when a 42-country coalition led by the United States kicked them out.
